Spelbeschrijving

Amulets & Armor is a first-person action-RPG in a mediaeval fantasy setting that runs on an engine vastly similar to that of DOOM. It offers over 10 different player classes, dozens of spells with various effects, as well as other novel features, but its dated looks at the time of release in 1997, coupled with other drawbacks, meant that it never had the success it deserved and became lost for nearly two decades, its memory preserved only by a handful of dedicated fans.

The game is split into seven quests of varying difficulty, each quest comprising from three to six levels chronicling the player's journey towards the goal. Between levels (and quests), the player visits the town to sell loot, buy gear and supplies, and rest at an inn to regain health, but all these actions are represented by menus only, without any first-person imagery. There are also no NPCs to interact with in this game either, making it indeed rather DOOM-like in its focus on action and exploration, but with ample role-playing elements.

Amulets & Armor was initially marketed as shareware, with the playable demo including one complete mid-game quest called Exiguus and the Undead, spanning four levels. In 2013, the authors of the game declared it freeware and released the source code, later followed by a Windows version. The full game can be downloaded from the official site.
