Spelbeschrijving
Giants of Steel is a simple mecha simulation game like MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat or Metaltech: EarthSiege. The player pilots a giant humongous mecha (called a Giant, likely to avoid copyright issues) with a selectable loadout, completing various missions. The background story, sparsely relayed via mission briefings, suggests a sci-fi setting vaguely similar to that of the MechWarrior universe, with clans of Giant pilots fighting one another.
In spite of its simple looks, once you get the hang of the controls (keyboard only is the preferred option), Giants of Steel is quite fun to play. There are over 10 missions in different terrain types and with different objectives. Each mission starts with a briefing and a loadout screen where you can equip your Giant with an array of weaponry, with more items gradually introduced as the game progresses. There is also a split-screen two-player mode.
Giants of Steel was originally sold as shareware, but on 13 April 1997, the complete version became available as a free download from the developer's website.
